Get active

Get active!

I recently had the opportunity to speak in a local teen health class. It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed sharing my knowledge of fitness and nutrition with the students.

Apart of my speech was informing everyone of the importance of getting active and eating nutritiously starting at a young age. I asked a compelling question to get their minds wondering. “Who in here knows how much physical activity on average a teenager needs a day?”

One girl knew the answer! I was so proud that at least on teenager knows the mark we should be hitting.

A teenager needs 30-60 minutes of physical activity a day. 9 out of 10 teens don’t exercise enough! That is 90% of all your friends! It’s vital to your overall health, stamina (energy) and developmental growth that you begin engaging in more physical activity.

Today, one in five children, ages 6-19 has obesity. This is a rate that has tripled in the U.S since the 1970’s! There are so many factors as to why, but I’ll have that for another topic and for your personal research! 😉

Fitness and nutrition go hand-in-hand. Both are vital aspects that should be apart of your daily routine so that you can become the healthiest version of yourself that you can be. I know that I am a better, happier and more confident version of myself when I’m taking care of my body physically.

My question to you is, how can you begin engaging in more physical activity each day? Let me know in the comments below!

Love, FitTeen Maddy
